U S pianist Kahane wins Rubinstein International Piano Contest
American pianist Jeffrey Kahane from San Francisco won the fourth Arthur Rubinstein international piano master competition in Tel Aviv with Rachmaninoff's Rhapsody on a Theme by Paganini. He receives $10,000 and a Picasso medal at a Jerusalem concert. Hung-Kuan Chen and Fei Ping Hsu placed second and third with $5,000 and $3,000 prizes.

Atlantic Satellite Network to Launch May 29 in Atlantic Canada
The Atlantic Satellite Network ATN will begin operation May 29 as Canada's first commercially supported direct broadcast satellite service.
