Massive Allied Raid Hits German Airfields in Bavaria

About 2,150 US heavy bombers and fighters swept across southern Germany targeting airfields rail yards and oil and munition depots in the Nuernberg Regensburg Munich region. Fighters probed German skies as nearly 800 enemy planes were shot down in four days amid the ongoing air war. Targets included Ingalstadt north of Munich and Obertraubling near Regensburg with further details continued on page three.

Executions Hit Luftwaffe Officers Revolt at HQ

April 11 reports from 1st Army Group Headquarters that 102 Luftwaffe members were executed March 31 to crush an officers revolt. Among the executed was a general named Baber.

Major Allied Push in Northern Italy Faces Tough German Line

AP War Analyst Dewitt Mackenzie reports a major Allied effort in northern Italy after Monday’s Senio river crossing. Canuck Airmen Score In Battle In Skagerrak

London April 11 Canadian airmen scored hits amid ships on a German merchantman and bombed another as RAF Halifaxes and Liberators struck shipping at dawn in the Skagerrak between Denmark and Norway. Six merchantmen were left burning or smoking and one ship weaving to evade attacks was hit amidships by two bombs from a Halifax. Lieutenant F. F. F. Mair of Crossfield Alberta was aboard.

Vienna encircled as Russian forces press advance on Breslau

Russian forces completed the encirclement of Vienna and pushed the German garrison into a shrinking eastern Danube crescent. The 2nd Ukrainian Army reportedly crossed into Moravia near Brno as Soviet units aimed to seize Breslau, storming through Veptabgky Square amid fierce fighting.

King Says German Resistance Crushed by War End Near

Ottawa April 11 Prime Minister Mackenzie King told the commons he believes German resistance on the eastern front and across Germany will be crushed soon and that the European war could be declared over before the San Francisco world security conference. Eisenhower had said western front resistance was crushed. The parliament faces dissolution Monday night as its term ends and war-time stability is prioritized.

Five Million Jews Gassed Cremated at Auschwitz Claim

Dr Bela Fabian Hungarian politician and author, a survivor of Auschwitz near Oswiecim in Silesia, told interviewers that 5,000,000 Jews from Belgium France Poland Russia Hungary and Greece were murdered at Auschwitz in a ten month period. He said 400,000 were gassed and cremated in the first two months and that about 1,000 remained alive. The interview was conducted via translators and translated into German.

Canadians Storm Across Ijssel In Assault Boat

Canadian troops of the 1st Army crossed the Ijssel in assault boats after a heavy artillery and air attack. Russians claim 42 miles west of Vienna stronghold
