Colombo report says two large Axis supply ships were intercepted by British warships and aircraft and scuttled by their crews in the Indian Ocean. The communique says they likely carried valuable cargoes such as oil or raw materials. Survivors were rescued from one vessel. nationality unspecified.
US bomber forces attacked Nazi air facilities in Belgium and France on the third straight day of heavy strikes after RAF raids. Estimates place 300 to 730 bombers with escorts, targeting Evere Vivorde Melsbroek Bourges and Pas-De-Calais. Sunday totals reached 92 German planes destroyed or damaged.
Thousands of south Yorkshire miners return to work signaling the end of a ten day strike that halted about 1 million tons of coal. By daybreak 75,000 had returned with 20,000 more due Wednesday as Doncaster district reopens and Hemsworth miners back. In Wichita Kansas on April 10 the case against Stanley Bargel 60 a tailor escalated as he was charged with first degree murder in the death of Captain Gail S Braden of the Wichita Fire Department. Bargel shot Braden then turned the gun on himself wounding no one else in the shop. Police reported Bargel attempted to shoot another firefighter who arrived to address fire hazards.

Previously lack of market outlet restricted Taber production to 5,858 barrels in March.
