Welfare recipients warned over worm-picking jobs in Ontario

Elgin County social services director Bob Bell warned in Tillsonburg that welfare recipients who refuse work with worm salesman Frank Cus could lose benefits. Cus, needing about 150 workers paid 16 dollars per 1,000 worms, says few recipients meet his needs. Bell has not cut off beneficiaries yet but vows action if noncompliant workers are found. In Edmonton, Court of Queen's Bench Justice Tevie Miller upheld press freedom to report trial proceedings amid an attempted murder case and a defence bid to limit publication of part of the accused's record.
