Galaxy sighted at Kitt Peak sets record distance
The most distant optical galaxy, about 10 billion light years away, was observed at Kitt Peak National Observatory using the Mayall Telescope. Astronomer HYRON SPINRAD and a student reported the finding, with the galaxy receding at roughly 199,553 kilometers per second.
