McNaughton Named to UN Atomic Energy Commission
Ottawa April 2 CP Gen McNaughton former defence minister has been named Canadian representative on the United Nations Organization atomic energy commission. He resigned as defence minister in August 1945 and has served as joint chairman of the Canada United States defence board. The UN commission for atomic energy will include members of the 11 man security council and Canada when not a council member. An order in council appointing McNaughton was passed earlier in the day.

The Winnipeg Grenadiers’ Company Sergeant Major John Robert Osborn of St. Vital Manitoba posthumously earned Canada’s 15th Victoria Cross for a last-ditch stand at Hong Kong. He died Dec 39 while saving his comrades by tossing back grenades despite grave danger. He was a father of five and a native of Norfolk Massachusetts before coming to Canada.

High waves lash Chile coast across wide shoreline
Disturbances early today sent high waves along Chilean shores from the north desert coast to icebound south.
