Rebuilding of Hunslet Parish Church foundation laid

The article describes the foundation stone ceremony for a new St Marys Church in Hunslet Leeds vast parish. Benefactor Mr Benjamin Ingham of Palermo Italy and family contribute £5000 with donations from Mrs Brook and Mrs Tidswell. Architect Perkin Backhouse. Plan includes nave aisles transepts tower spire 161 feet and 850 seats. Funds sought for land, wall, bells and finishing costs with 2000 more expected. Ceremony featured speeches by vicar Rev Wilson Canon Atlay and others.

Destruction of a portion of the Metropolitan Railway

A major flood from the Fleet Ditch damages the Metropolitan Railway works near Clerkenwell. The tunnel and brick arches suffer extensive collapse, with about £12,000 in damage expected to delay opening by three months or more.
