District Council Elections Ballots Tomorrow

Elections by ballot to fill vacant seats in several district councils will be held tomorrow from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. In White Cliff Ward Laura District Council candidates are G. E. Cleggett and F. H. Hollis at Laura Town Hall. Port Germein area contests include Wonggarra Ward with B. Starr and N. S. Giles and Booleroo Ward with F. Roocke and S. F. Arthur. Wilmington Ward nominees are J. J. Hannagan H. Farrell and Latroff.

Wirrabara Club Golf Championship and Crystal Brook Events

The Wirrabara club held championship and stroke competitions in ideal weather with strong fields. T A Fitzgerald won the Open Championship with 155, J H Clarke second 157, W S Cherie third 161, while J Mahood led morning stroke with 59 net. Afternoon winners included J A Stewart 61 and Fitzgerald 67. At Crystal Brook, D Fuss claimed the A Grade title and A E Robinson the B Grade, plus handicaps and associates’ events won by Pollard, Tucker, Neindorf, Buttfield, and a team with Kendrew Frith Maynard Pilkington.

Crystal Brook Hospital Guild Elects Officers At Annual Meeting

The Crystal Brook Hospital Guild held its annual meeting presided by Matron Neindorf. The report shows £109 raised during the year. Officers elected include Matron Neindorf as president and a slate of vice presidents, secretary, and committee members from Crystal Brook, Narridy, Wandearah, Merriton, Redhill and Redhill districts.

Farewell Social for Guider Rohrlach at Laura

Members of the Laura Girl Guides and Ranger Companies bid farewell to Guider Rohrlach after over five years of service. The Friday evening event at Miss Sunman’s residence featured competitions parlor games a musical programme and supper. Captain Miss D Rose Miss D Sunman and others wished her happiness in Nuriootpa and success in guide activities.

Band of Hope Meeting in Laura Supported by All

The Laura Band of Hope gathering at the Baptist sector hall on June 13 drew good attendance. Vice-president Mr. Shepherd substituted for President Rev. S Evans, absent on circuit work. A boys team led a varied program while Rev. A Brown urged wholehearted support and total abstinence for success in demanding games like football.
