At the May meeting in Melrose Port Germein District Council reports vandalism to repairs on the main road. It seeks Royal Automobile Association of S A help to convict offenders and offers a £10 reward for information leading to conviction, with £5 donated by the Association pound for pound.
The Laura Band of Hope held its monthly gathering in the Methodist lecture hall. Rev. A Brown opened the event and introduced the evening’s chairman Mr. James Stevens, captain of the Keeling team, whose members contributed a strong programme. Mr. A. Morgan assisted with the proceedings.
A lecturing program on grain use and abuse featured chairman led illustrated stories. Contributors included Cecil Wild, Don and Bob Fuller, Alex and Angus McLean. Miss B Gale, State Organiser for the WCTU, spoke in Laura and Georgetown, with visits to Laura School and the Baptist J.C.G. for talks on union activities and future plans.
On Tuesday afternoon a croquet match at the Laura courts saw Wirrabara facing Laura. Laura won with totals of 94 to 68 as pairs including Mrs F W Shephard with Mr R Fuller and Mrs R J Rose with Mrs Millhinch posted wins, while Mrs Chandler and Miss Quigley lost to Mrs Hayes and Miss Cobiac.
Federal Elections notice invites financial members of the Liberal and Country League to nominate candidates for the Grey Division of the House of Representatives. Nominations must be received by the Grey Divisional Committee President at Crystal Brook, care of Mr. Ben Weston, by 12 noon on Wednesday, July 4.
