The Landis Congregational Church ladies gathered yesterday afternoon at Mrs. H. R. Williams residence and conducted business before sharing a luncheon.
Landis and District reports visits by residents to relatives in Ontario and Manitoba. Wences number of wartime notices, a mising son message from Ottawa, and updates on local business and farm crops. A Ford production quip and a wedding in London Ontario are noted along with new farming equipment trial near Saskatoon.
Mr L H Paterson traveled to Saskatoon on Saturday to visit Mrs Paterson and his new granddaughter born on the 1st inst. Mother and baby are fine. Mr D Cunningham reports wheat yields poor at 34 bushels per acre. A L Granger, with a broken leg, moved from Scott to Saskatoon hospital, still in critical condition. Red Cross Traynor branch met in the schoolhouse and prepared Christmas socks for soldiers, dispatching 54 socks, 13 pajama sets, and 12 face cloths to Regina this week. Next meeting at Mrs Veale's on Sept 26. year-end donations urged.
Harvest delays postpone the Red Cross social to Sept 21 in the afternoon at Mrs W D Smith’s home. The Swift Current Trail School Junior Red Cross held a bazaar concert and dance Sept 6 raising 56 50 for Red Cross funds after 60 receipts and 3 50 expenses. Also note Harry Cook’s return from France on furlough after eighteen months with two wounds. Thanksgiving Day for Canada is set for Monday October 14.
By Law 20 under the Municipalities Seed Grain Act provides that for spring 1919 the Rural Municipality of Reford No. 379 may advance seed grain on credit to resident farmers in need and borrow up to 30000 dollars to fund distribution. Seed grain advances are secured by promissory notes, liens on crops grown, and caveats against relevant lands. The measure awaits ministerial approval after notice and is certified as a true copy by Reeve Tim Curtin and Secretary E. S. Desert.
Since the last report the Red Cross collected 30 pairs of socks 12 suits of pyjamas and 3 hospital ties. Twenty boxes with two pairs of socks each and other comforts were sent. Landis boys in August. The Society plans a Rum mage Sale for late October and invites donations to secretary Mrs BE Eb Bent or president Mrs DeRoche. A number of gifts are listed.
After threshing ends the usual auction sale begins. Advertisers are urged to carefully set up bills and ads to avoid paying 50 to 75 dollars when the same can be done for about one fifth. The Record offers guidance.
