The Village of Landis council met September 4 at Town Hall with Overseer J Grenkie, Councillors Keeroche Miller and Secretary-Treasurer present. They decided to install a culvert on Main Street East and extend drainage, replace lumber street crossings with gravel topped rock foundations, readvertise Third Ave grading, and fix the 1916 tax rates at General 6 mills Special 7 mills Patriotic 1 mill School 4 mills. Also Nunn Bros will supply a daily market letter via Baird and Botterell during grain season and urge farmers to consign grain for premium prices. inquiries welcome.
Due to a manpower shortage from overseas enlistees, the Royal North West Mounted Police headquarters at Scott will close permanently at month’s end. Constable Allen departs for Unity to oversee the district, while Constable Al remains to supervise local affairs and note that Scott residents have been well behaved under his regime.
