Proclamation on Judicial and Town Authority Reform at Batavia
The Lieutenant Governor Raffles issues a proclamation dated August 22 1815 detailing a regulation to separate police duties from magistrates work and reorganize local governance. It transfers court duties to the Supreme Court of Justice at Batavia from the bench of magistrates and shifts town duties to the government collector. A committee for improvement of the town will oversee canals and public works. The proclamation is published in the government gazette and translated for native languages.
