Opium Retail Privilege Granted in Batavia District
A historic notice from Batavia dated May 28 7813 grants a farmer exclusive right to retail Opium in a defined district including Barttan low countries. The farmer to be supplied by the Company Stores at up to 1200 Spanish Dollars per chest, with monthly limits and six to seven shops allowed in the low countries, half that in high leads, each shop having a resident’s license. No more stock than needed to meet demand, with removal date and seizure rules outlined. The farmer cannot speculate on crates or stock, and opium sale requires prior license and adherence to limits. further, no more than the specified number of plan in possession without lieutenant governor approval.
