In Batavia on December 15 1813 the Vice President in Council appoints Horn Esq to be a Member of the Council and seat established by this order. The appointee takes oath and assumes the seat on this day.
Readers are informed of fresh dispatches from Lisbon via Macao detailing Migence heads and midularly the public events tied to foreign affairs. The letter notes Bautzen nearing Milhe Breach and a firm, steady opposition to the French, signaling brighter prospects than earlier reports.
Dispatches report French attacks and Allied countermoves across Saxony and Spain with scattered movements toward Leipzig Bautzen and Madrid. Ney wounded at Pegau. Belluno near Wittenberg. Wellington’s forces advance toward Salamanca and Alba de Tormes as French retreat from Valladolid.
Dispatches dated May 1813 report Wing on the sixth a skirmish between French and Allied forces near Petsdorf on the eighth. The enemy attacked Dresden. Intelligence from Canton describes Cape of Virginia actions against Norfolk and the Constellation Frigate, with British operations near the Elbe and Milan missions for Beauharnois. It adds battles at Hamburg, Lutzen, Bautzney leaving 40,000 dead, Austrian Archduke Charles ready to act, and whispers of a general peace and the title of Emperor of Germany being restored.
By order of the President and Bench of 8 Magistrates of Batavia a public auction will be held on Wednesday the 22d instant at nine o'clock in the morning at the Stadhouse. The sale covers taxes on horses and carriages, revenues of the Bazar of Weltewreeden, and other duties such as bridges and ferries. Contracts run from January 1 to December 31, 1814 under terms posted at the Stad-house.
