Squadron Leader F B D Swain set a new world altitude record in a British LAF experimental high altitude aircraft reaching 40 967 feet. The flight lasted 3 hours 20 minutes, ending after emergency escape actions and crew exhaustion.
Representatives of the Dunstan Country Party Ministry and the Labor Party sign an election pact to confront the Legislative Council Reform Bill. If the Council rejects the reform, the two parties will contest the state election jointly on the last Saturday in November or the first Saturday in December. The central issue is expanding democracy in the Legislative Council.
In Taree on Wednesday, Mr. J. McGuire postmaster and Langley Vale storekeeper died after a car left the road, entered a drain and overturned. Passenger Mr. Peter McNaught was severely injured and remains in critical condition at hospital.

Henry Walker, 39, fell beneath an electric train at St James station in Sydney. He was believed to have become giddy as the train approached and toppled onto the line, suffering fatal injuries and dying shortly after.

Mrs Minnie Ponton 68, wife of Frederick J Ponton of Tingha, died at Tingha District Hospital after thirty years residency. Survived by husband and eight children William Henry Ponton Frederick J John Arthur Ashford and four daughters. Funeral held at Tingha Church of England cemetery with Rev L J McDonald officiating.
