Leonard Riordan 26 drowned at Bellambi while surfing yesterday as an undertow pulled him and Harald Jones from shore. Jones was swept out with Riordan and saved by David Wakeling who collapsed from exhaustion. Riordan’s body was not recovered despite hours of search.

An expert flyer, Thomas Fatou Lander, rose to a height at Faulkner Street airfield in London before the glider suddenly nosedived. He plunged to the ground in front of onlookers, with several witnesses reporting the fatal impact.
