A major winter storm sweeps the Atlantic seaboard halting rail and ship traffic. Heavy snow postpones the NYSE opening for an hour as 36,000 laborers and snow plows try to clear the area and restore services.
Races at Kensington in Sydney produced winners in several handicaps.
