In Geneva the League of Nations conference is alarmed by a confidential Soviet secret service appeal calling on Russian schools to organize a military force of fifteen million youths to defend Communism against capitalist states. The document’s authenticity is not doubted.
Moscow warns of retaliation as Soviet orders for vast U S goods may be canceled if the United States enacts an embargo on Russian timber. British United Press reports claim the move targets timber produced under prison conditions and could trigger reciprocal U S action.
In Sydney on Monday the Full Court granted Truth and Sportsman Lee leave to appeal to the Privy Council from the State Full Court’s declination of a new trial in the libel case brought by De Thompson CIM against Truth and Sportsman Ltd. The jury initially found for the defendant, a new trial was ordered, and the second jury awarded De Thompson CIM damages of ten thousand pounds.
A Sydney report states that Sydney, Monday, the ACLP general secretary said a conference between Federal One Stay executives would decide if the policy should be adopted to push Federal Labor members to back Mr Lang's financial plan.
William Morgan, a Koorda district farmer and pioneer, left a letter saying he could not face the future. Two men were arrested in connection with the Saturday night shooting of Oscar Bruhn. Ernest Lionel Reid, a tobacconist aged 38, is charged with firing at Bruhn with intent to murder. Patrick Shannon, 47, a clerk, is charged with carrying a pistol without a permit. Reid was later released on bail of £500.

In Sydney last night Mr W od Long M P urged repudiation of overseas debts as the only solution to ease the budget. He criticized the present financial council and the Labor Party at Canberra for failing to balance finances, arguing a three year or three year plan would not help. He said repudiation would relieve starving women and children.
