Theodore Hendy, 28, received a two year term at Quarter Sessions for five counts of house robbery. Police said a accomplice woman helped by watching and carrying stolen goods to distract attention while he broke in. Hendy described as a cunning criminal.

At Oakwood Homestead a frenzied pony bolted across paddocks injuring 15 year old Donald Waddell as his mother watched. Donald, son of Mr. and Mrs. W. Waddell, was dragged after his haltered pony unseated him and caused fatal injuries to head and chest. The mother received kicks and shock but survived the incident.

In a squall on Saturday night a skiff carrying Monroe Thomas Shersing aged 3 and his daughter Dawn aged 2 overturned while crossing from Forster to Tuncurry. Mrs Shersing 30 and her two sisters escaped. The mother, unable to swim, clung to the child as the infant slipped free and drowned. the mother was rescued with immersion and shock.
