In a Leichhardt Church sermon Rev. J Pauwlkner urged ministers to volunteer as chaplains rather than recruiters if war returns. He warned against asking God to take sides and contrasted Anzac glory with the bloody Gallipoli battles and the steadfast courage of the miners and soldiers.
Judge Foster told the congregation at the Unitarian Church that modern war lacks personal courage and glamour. He warned that mechanical and chemical slaughter targets both soldiers and innocent people and urged strengthening the League of Nations to avert such conflicts and guard world peace.

In Potchefstroom at the New Mac Havie mine the miner W. Anderson and two natives were found alive in the fifteenth level after floodwater trapped workers since last Wednesday. Air in a box hole kept them breathing and Anderson requested a cigarette upon rescue. The team later recovered the other European and several natives. no further hope remains for the rest.

Horace Nash a 29 year old stoker was charged with maliciously wounding Richard Bramston Federal Labor candidate for Hurstville at a garage on Saturday night. The police prosecutor said Nash entered Bramston's garage and allegedly assaulted a woman before pulling a pocket knife and stabbing Bramston requiring four stitches. Bramston is out of danger and Nash was remanded to May 2.
In Spring Hill City a violent brawl in a block of flats left two men and a woman seriously injured and hospitalized. An axe tomahawk knives and bottles were used. John Tripoli a seaman suffered a fractured skull Vera Moore had a severed artery and lacerations and George Gray sustained head injuries.
