Melbourne reports Howard Holmes injured in motorcycle accident near Hotham Heights. His sidecar toppled 400 feet down a cliff into the Diamentinga Valley. A rescue party ferried him two miles on a stretcher through a blizzard ward to safety with a broken rib and back injuries.
Allan "Speed" Morgan won the two mile Grampian Stakes at Stawell on Monday but was disqualified for not disclosing all performances in the last two years. Morgan, from New South Wales, must return the £80 prize money.

Henry Learnes, long time Inverell district resident, aged 75, died Monday night at his daughter’s Tingha Road home.
