Australian tobacco output under review by British company
At the annual meeting of British Tobacco Company Australia chairman Mr Al J Worry said the leaf produced locally was below the stemmed grade. After talks with the Federal Government the company planned to buy over a million dollars of Australian leaf for this year while awaiting market clarity. They blamed overproduction on inexperience and unsuitable districts and expected new districts to meet near term needs with quality improvements as growers gain experience.
