Future of Wimmera irrigation praised at district dinner

Mr. L Bartels praised the potential of irrigated pastures in the Wimmera during a district dinner at Perring's Cafe. He noted rapid progress, the district's comparable standing with the Goulburn Valley, and the value of clovers and Lucerne for soil fertility and drought resilience among 469 acres of pastures. Farmers showcased strong carrying capacity, with experimental ideas like sowing cats for pasture management discussed by Bartels and Tulloh.

Irrigation progress cited at Horsham field day

Commissioner Translow praised a pioneering irrigation area near Limestone Ridge and urged Murray valley districts to follow its lead. He noted some regions with long irrigation years lagged behind Horsham, due to a lack of practical farmers and know how. Society president Mr. T. Newton said the next field day would be in March 1940 and the annual tour of the northern irrigation areas would likely be in the same month.
