Tragedy in Horsham as man found dead beside gun
A Horsham man named Dawson was found fatally mutilated beside a double barreled gun on a fence near Dahlen siding. Police say a discharged cartridge was found nearby and an inquest will be held next week. Dawson, 87, formerly of Nhill and Minyip, left a wife Vera Binder and three children. He was a motor mechanic and active in local clubs and church work. The funeral will be at Horsham Cemetery with a 3 p.m. cortege from the Base Hospital.

New Parsonage Opened at Gorake Ceremony and Baptism
A Monday evening ceremony at Gorake marked the official opening of the new Methodist parsonage. The Rev G Muller led devotions on the verandah, the Rev B I Semmens spoke, and Mr Hawkins son of the oldest attendee, turned the key to declare the parsonage open. A baptism followed for the Rev and Mrs Muller’s baby, then an illustrated lecture “England Home and Beauty” was given. The timber five-room house features panelled dados and a large sleepout. The project carries a debt of £200, lent interest-free but repayable over 10 years.
