Arapiles Shire Council faces tight finances as road work strains the budget. An overdraft near the £5056 limit prompted a bank extension of £500 after a deputation. Gravel deposits in the shire are scarce, worsening highway maintenance costs amid drought and low prices.
A deputation visited the bank to secure a 300 extension of the shire overdraft amid a debate on keeping rate at 19d and plans to raise loans for new works. Estimates show net receipts of 68425 at 19 in the pound with expenditures including public works, maintenance, and loans.
Council faces gravel depletion in the north riding for the coming year. Dr Crossley urges action for about 2000 yards of gravel. limestone crush is not viable.
