After a year since starting, the Similkamoen Waterworks power plant nears completion with the dam mostly finished and the flume ready for water carriage. The foundation work for the powerhouse is emphasized with cement work before frost, while the main frame structure remains to be completed under favorable weather conditions.
A benefit concert under Hedley Brass Band auspices set for November 17 features a varied programme led by Mr. Glaze. The event supports a public enterprise with a dance to follow. admission 150 and 50 respectively. The bill includes Reading The Famine, Southwell Band, and performances by Mrs Forbes, Mr. Glaze, and a male quartet among others.
The Nickel Plate camp plans to reestablish a school after periods of closure as families moved to town. Inspector Anstey previews improving conditions with maps and supplies arriving, teacher applicants received, and initial classes expected to start soon with about ten pupils, rising as workers bring families.

Nearly a mile and a half of preliminary shaft for the five wire tunnel under the Selkirk Hange has been dug. By October 26, 5014 feet of the pioneer bore were excavated, with a parallel small passage from the western portal. Main tunnel progress is rapid, designed for double track traffic, head widened to full width, 2378 feet from the eastern end and 1250 feet from the western entrance. A section 706 feet long is completed at the east end.

A Friday evening Golf Club event capped the Merrill Cup drama with a dance. Mr. W. E. Pollock received the Mezill Cup as this year’s title holder. President G. P. Jones spoke, Pollock thanked hosts, and the celebration continued into late night festivities with a light supper and music.
Dr. Jack Dawson of Perth Australia continues a ten year world hike funded entirely by his own means. He recently spoke at Enderby and will travel to Salwon Aru then Vienna to meet Sir Richard McBride before returning to Australia to claim the $25,000 prize offered by the Australian Sporting Club. He has carried an 80 pound pack for some 70,000 miles, living rough, and remains silent on his motives beyond sport.
