Late Mrs J C R Coates Died in Kendall Mont

Hedley residents mourn the death of Julia Ann Hazza rd Coates a Tacoma native who died April 20 at Kendall Montana after a brief illness Her funeral set at Hoski s chapel St Helens avenue with relatives in Tacoma and Hedley left to mourn her loss She is survived by three children and the Hazard family kin in Washington and Montana including George Hazzard now with Northern Pulp at Hunt s Junction and Mrs Joseph J Gueinen sister of the deceased from Tacoma.

Two Years' Truce Settles Miners Wage Dispute

A temporary settlement ends the two year wage dispute between miners and operators. The new agreement raises wages slightly and suspends vacations as workers resume at once. If disputes arise, a six member joint committee will decide, with a potential independent chair. Local unions largely return to work while Michel remains opposed. The coke ovens at Fernie resume full operation, and a renewal conference will occur sixty days before expiration.

A patriotic town in Summerland forms a rifle association with DRA ties and a ninety member club. Ross rifles will be supplied as the live organization grows. The town’s population supports organizing and maintaining such a patriotic science sport body and urges readers to join.

Rollo Bonded Holdings Signal Ottawa Capitalists Reach

The Rollo mineral claim near Twenty Mile camp, bonded by H W Yates to Ottawa capitalists after a telegram from R Hedley, is the oldest location in the camp with August 1897 treatment by Peter Scott. Nickel Plate located a year later. Scott still owns a stake, with Phil Johnson and R R Meilley as other owners. The bond promises strong ore, a fine body, and potential profits if development proceeds.

May Rifle Shoot Tests Winds and Bulls Eyes

The Hedley Rifle Association held its May monthly shoot with nine competitors braving variable winds. L. C. W. Bulls won the cup with 61, T. D. Pickard took the medal in the list shoot, and Rolly led the 200 and 300 yard imager with 40. Next match will test 400 and 400 yard ranges. Only regular monthly shoots will carry trophies. the club seeks fresh members as outdoor amusements wane.
