Dominion Day at Princeton Sports Highlights and Turnout

Dominion Day celebrations at Princeton featured lacrosse between Hope and Keremeos and a Hedley Copper Mountain baseball clash won by Hedley’s side on a rough day. A heavy Copper Mountain lineup gave Hedley trouble. pitching changes followed an injury to Billy Congin. The next morning Copper Mountain beat a Conlmont Pulumeen combined team. In rock drilling, Hedley won both prizes with E. Hamilton, Fred Lyon first and Yorky, J. Bean second. drills recorded 20 1 16, 26 3 16, 25 and 21 inches respectively.

Connaught to Return as Governor General Extends Term

Ottawa reports Sir Charles Pitzpatrick received a cable from the colonial secretary confirming the Duke of Connaught will extend his term as governor general of Canada for one year. The couple may return this autumn, health permitting, and Rideau Hall reconstruction will proceed by Peter Lyall & Sons to have the residence ready before Christmas.

Body of Joe Fleischer Found Near Keremeos

The body of Joe Fleischer, born Juki Pleischer and believed 45, was found last Sunday in the Similkameen River at Webster's Ferry, three miles north of Keremeos. An inquest found death by a fall or jump from a Great Northern trestle during a personal crisis. robbery was not evident.

Osler Urges End to Voluntary Hospital System

London June 27 Sir William Osler called for ending the voluntary hospital system at the British Hospital Association annual conference in Oxford. He contrasted American and British methods praising England for aiding the poor while he accused the rich of neglect, urging reform and rearrangement and criticizing obstinacy and ignorance.

Indian Guilty of Murder in New Westminster Trial

Paul Spintlum, an Indian, was found guilty of murder in New Westminster for killing Provincial Constable Kindcoss near May B 1622. He faces life imprisonment with a sentence of hanging on September 12. Co-defendant Moses Paul was previously tried but the case adjourned. Paul now stands as accessory. Spintlum and Paul fled jail in 1912 after murder. authorities pursued them and seized the culprits following threats to remove tribal chiefs who sheltered them.

Increasing Power At Upper Bonnington Falls

West Knotenay Power plans to install an extra 8 000 horsepower at Upper Bonnington to meet rising demand. The system currently supplies 24 000 horsepower across Upper and Lower Bonnington and Cascade, with Upper Bonnington to receive the increase. The aim is to lift load by 25 percent this year and reach 80 percent growth through the period, reflecting activity from Rosslund mine and related local properties.

The Duke of Sutherland Leveson-Gower, fourth Duke of Sutherland, died at Danrobir Castle on the 26th. He was a major landholder with estates in Britain and overseas. He supported western Canadian colonization and purchased vast tracts of territory. His marriage to Lily Millicent Erskine produced two sons and a daughter.
