Fatality at the mine claims two workers in blast incident

A mine accident at Sunnysides No. 3 killed Archibald McAllister and William Coward. The coroner’s inquest found they died from injuries after a misfired hole in a drift, with the blast shattering Coward and mangling McAllister. Zinc Smelter Site To Be At Medicine Hat Says The Kootenian

The Kootenian reports the Lucky Tim mine in the Slogan may ship ore to a zinc smelter at Medicine Hat due to abundant gas and clay. The Mining and Scientific Press notes the Hidden Creek deal valued at 200000 was largely settled on December 13 with 25000 still owed to engineer Mr. Rodgers who relinquished his stake for 160 Granby shares and 50000 cash. Hodgens received 400000 as majority holder in Hidden Creek. The Slocan Star reports ongoing shipments after last year’s development while Porcupine stocks slump and aggressive brokers face suspensions.

Hospital Benefit Ball Raises Funds Behind Successful Night

A benefit ball for Hedley Hospital held at Shatford's hall drew attendees from Keremeos and Princeton with music by Sproule and Daly Roight. Despite a late postponement, costs were modest and the event yielded a net balance of 270 dollars after expenses and donations from Rev. A. H. Ganerom, J. J. Armstrong, and Steve Mangoth.

Memorial Service for Archy Moc Allister and Billie Conad

A large crowd attended the funeral and memorial service for Archy Moc Allister and Billie Conad who died in the recent accident. The Hedley Miners Union held the ceremony at Daly Avenue hall and at Bivaley cemetery with Rev James Hogg of Galston presiding. The miners choir of sixteen voices joined the service, which blended a memorial sermon with the usual Presbyterian rite to honor the two men.

Vancouver to doubletrack 100 miles rail line plan

The proposal aims to doubletrack a 10 mile Canadian Northern line section between Spences Bridge and Hope with costs between 20 and 25 million dollars and potential opening early next year. Surveys for a Spence's Bridge to Kamloops double track exist though not as viable. John Masteel, a worker, died accidentally at the telegraphic camp work site.
