Annual Mines Report Highlights British Columbia Production

The Preliminary Review and Estimates of the B C Bureau of Mines for 1916 show total mineral output reaching 42 970 555 dollars with copper, gold and lead contributing large shares. The O loyoos division notes the Nickel Plate mine as a major producer with ore tonnage near 700 000 and gold value around 700 000 to 800 000 dollars. In Similkameen copper exploitation expands at Copper Mountain with a 100 ton daily mill planned as part of a 1000 ton project. Tulameen reports copper ore shipments from St George and Totem Pole, with high water limiting placer work on Granite Creek. Hedley Patriotic Funds records receipts and disbursements through 1916. Dance Planned Next Friday at Nickel Plata Mine

Town and district notes mention a social dance at the Nickel Plata mine scheduled for tomorrow evening. Burrus has departed for Kansas City to attend to his ill mother. Hunetke has left the Daly Reduction mill, with M. C. Hill of Trail replacing him. The Sling, the army journal from Canadian Field Ambulance boys, arrived via Pte. A. B. Stanley and features readable content and neat English printing.

McLean Wins Tunnel Contract for Oregon Ore Body Drilling

W A McLean secures the contract to drive the tunnel toward a buried ore body about 100 feet deep. The Hedley Board of Trade plans a March 1927 meeting to discuss removing sidewalk fungi, reestablishing a post office, and routing monthly Great Northern passenger service near the bridge. Other 1917 relics include road openings, Indian reserve mineral location plans, daily mail, train connections, and monthly coach dusting.

BC fruit growers urged to boost west marketing links

Thos Abriel of Nakusp, president of the BC Fruit Growers Association, shares from Edmonton and Calgary that prairie farmers are organized and fruit growers should cultivate prairie ties to market more BC fruit. He urges more promotional spending in BC to fund a larger apple show in Calgary and a coast to coast advertising fund, noting shifts in global markets and the need for ongoing westwide advertising to overcome consumer prejudices.
