Keremeos Social Roundup Includes Snow and School Debate

In Keremeos last week residents visited from Victoria Olulla and Nelson and joined a skating party at Cawston. Notables include Geo Cawston of Prince ton and Wanisley of Conconully passing through. A white mantle snow blanketed the town Friday night. Cawston to host a Christmas tree entertainment December 22 in the schoolhouse to aid the Vancouver Children’s Aid Fund. A dance at Cawston opened Newton Sinclair’s store. a Boy Scout hike pleased leaders Stanton Kerr. The consolidated school proposal drew strong local support after talks by inspector Anstey and Mrs McCallum who chaired, with a town hall meeting and refreshments by the Women’s Institute. Mrs Corbett plans to return after Christmas. several others attended events and meetings through the week.

Dick Burde Decorated for Zeal Under Fire

Lieutenant R Burde of the 102nd battalion OC EF was decorated on the field with the Military Cross for conspicuous work in Northern France. He will be decorated with the medal by the king upon return to England on leave. Burde, a well known printer and writer in RC, formerly worked at the Victoria Times, Vancouver Province, and other papers, and later published the Port Alberni News. ex mayor of Port Alberni. Postmasters Urged to Warn Public on Money by Mail

Postmasters in Caruadit province received directive from Ottawa to warn the public that money should be sent only by money order bank note or registered letter.
