Hedley's Big Mine A Detailed View Of The Nickel Plate

A historical geology summary of the Nickel Plate mine in the Osoyoos district on Twenty Mile Creek. It describes discovery in 1895, productive periods since 1904, ore deposits in contact metamorphic limestone, dominant minerals arsenopyrite and sulphides, ore body depth and dip, and past and proposed improvements including a 10 stamp mill and cyanide plant.

Penticton Board Pushes Carmi Wagon Road Plan

The Penticton Board of Trade urged Public Works to build a Penticton to Carmi road linking the Okanagan with the West Fork of the Kettle River. A committee interviewed L W Shatford M P P who supported a survey and route study, noting potential hay lands mining value and early use for power plant shipments. An old estimate listed 70 000 for 88 miles.

Titanic Sinks After Collision With Iceberg On Maiden Voyage

Reports from Cape Race say the ocean liner Titanic struck an iceberg and began sinking with about 800 saved. Notables aboard include Astor, Widener, Guggenheim, and other figures. ships Virginian Baltic and Olympic raced to the disaster. The Titanic, 46 823 tons, left Southampton for New York on its maiden voyage with roughly 1 800 passengers aboard.

Kettle Valley Railway Work Moves Forward From Summerland

Interview in Summerland Review cites that all material for forty miles from Summerland to the Summit will be handled through Summerland including steel for Trout Creek bridge. J J Wiurren says this is not entirely correct. emphasis on Summerland as shipping hub and Penticton for eastern contracts. Three contracts let for extension west of Carmi with Williains, Dussmuir, and Connely winning six, nine, and ten miles respectively.
