Fragmentary rural notice lists names and dates with mentions of auctions and valuations. It refers to Cory Felt Slap and Cory Soles with dates 6/1 and 4/1, buyers awaiting props from various farms and businesses, and private sale actions led by Bown Auctioneer and Real Hos Croydon.
Readable fragments describe a school event with students presenting handwork, knitting, sewing, drawings, and woven items. The display included book work and fair exhibits to parents, with teachers guiding a combined party of 38 girls and boys.
At last week’s meeting the council appointed Leo P. Davey of Chum Creek in a temporary role as greenkeeper successor to L Hook. The Engineer’s Report urged proper bitumen repair methods and noted serious damage on Spragg’s Road, Toolong, and a sinking bridge on the Yea River. Recommendations included closing the road to timber traffic, delaying large works until November, and expanding staff for the Myers Creek crusher project. Concerns over unauthorised culverts in Castella and Smith Streets were raised, with a stand that no grant would be issued for a Comfort Station without a strong justification.
The Universalntx program lists an afternoon evening and Monday showing at the Palais. The plot centers on a priceless diamond necklace theft with Ford and Hughes in prominent roles. Mime Langford stars as a winging entertainer in the nightclub setting and Miss Hughes appears as a late pickpocket.
A listing of showings at Palais Pietores Hall Sealesville theatre announcing The Constant Nymph starring Charles Royer Joan Fontaine and Alexis Smith marked G general exhibition along with other features including The Rite Brothers with Frances Langford and Mary Beth Hughes and In Old Mexico. The Ghost Catchers and related acts with Martha O Driscoll Gloria Joan Leo Carillo Marion Downey and Andy Devine are also billed in this cinema program.
Members are reminded to attend the general meeting in Memorial Hall on Thursday night September 13. Election of officers for the ensuing year will be on the agenda. Also noted is Toolanut Telephone Service and an advisory update from the Deputy Director of Posts and Telegraphy.
