The Miniota council met on Wednesday to transact routine business. The Improvement Society held its first Stn meeting with a good turnout and a social tone. Farmers consider buying a thoroughbred stallion imported from Scotland by Mr. Smith of Illinois as a community improvement.

The Hamiota Council met in the Council Chamber at 10:00 a.m. Reeve Fraser and Councillors Murdoch Whyte and McConnell took the declaration of office. Minutes from the previous meeting were read and adopted as read. The discussion then turned to vacancies in wards 1 and 3.
A list of council actions from Blanchard including appointments for Ward 1 councillor W J Cochrane and Ward 8 councillor R Pearson. Other measures set salaries for clerk and treasurer, health officers and inspectors, and mark 1902 committee assignments and audit orders. A motion to conduct council meetings in Oak River was rejected and by law a license for pool tables granted.
The council discussed adopting the 1901 assessment roll for 1902 with a court of revision set for May 1902. They approved bylaw 229 appointing a clerk treasurer health officer and inspector and authorized payments to various vendors and staff. A hail insurance petition was discussed and an adjournment scheduled for February 7.
