Narrow escape after crash ends in fire near Shoal Lake
Robert Gregory his wife and two children and Doris Lints and Margaret McFarren of Decker Man narrowly escaped serious injuries when their car swerved into a ditch to avoid a horse drawn water tank and an oncoming vehicle on No 28 highway two miles from Shoal Lake. A match struck before a flashlight caused an immediate explosion engulfing the car, which was wrecked though occupants suffered only minor bruises. The tank team was only lightly hurt and the ducking driver escaped. The North Western Manitoba Musical Festival Association annual meeting was postponed to September 25 at Hamiota United Church. A citizens band amateur contest and orchestra competition drew competitors from multiple towns, producing a $100 proceeds to aid the band.
