Queen Elizabeth II to Visit Brandon University in 1984

Her Majesty will name the new music building on October 5 1984 at Brandon University and tour campus. The visit includes unveiling a plaque, attendance by Chancellor Stanley Knowles and President Earl J Tyler, with a free School of Music performance to follow. Centennial history book committee meet in Hamiota

The Centennial History Book Committee met on September 12 1984 in Hamiota and reported being debt free. Printing costs for Hamiota Grains of the Century are covered by a grant from New Horizons and donations from Marion Kirk Elva Cochrane and the Centennial Glee Club. The group thanked supporters, noted Catherine Johnston won an Afghan and cushion, and announced plans to auction a second copy by tender later with submission to the Margaret McWilliams History Book Competition and a January 1985 meeting planned.

Steinbach Skater Wins Gold at Manitoba Summer Open

Robin Johnstone of Steinbach Figure Skating Club captured first place in Juvenile Ladies Flight A at the 12th Manitoba Summer Open Free Skating in Winnipeg this month. The 10-year-old skater also competed in Juvenile Compulsory Dance with Curtis Vertefeuille, and passed multiple tests including the Fourteen Step Dance, Second Figures, and Senior Bronze Free Skate. Johnstone is the daughter of Lynn and Jim Johnstone and granddaughter of Nelson and Eula Woods.

Royal Manitoba Festival Free Tickets For Rural Manitobans

Free tickets available to rural Manitobans for the Royal Manitoba Festival at Winnipeg Arena on October 5. Over 1,500 seats reserved until September 24 for non Winnipeg residents. request via Arena Box Office or pick up Sept 18–22. Event features Royal Winnipeg Ballet Winnipeg Symphony Orchestra a 100 member pipe band and folk art groups. Queen Elizabeth II will walk through the audience before seating in the Royal Box.

Oak River Ladies Aux meets after summer break

The Oak River Ladies Auxiliary of the Royal Canadian Legion met on Sept 6 after summer holidays. A babysitting course with 12 participants passed. They voted to upgrade their young people bursary and plan a next year campaign for an ability fund. Several thank you notes plus 2 sympathy, 2 get well, and 1 flower arrangement were noted. Next meeting is Oct 3 with a day change to Wednesday.
