Hamiota School Reopens With 203 Pupils and 8 Teachers

On September 4 203 pupils returned to Hamiota Public School as 8 teachers form the elementary staff for 1962 63 led by Miss R Morris and include teachers from Grade I to Grade VII across Sask and Manitoba towns. A miscellaneous shower was held September 5 honoring Mrs Elinor Shaw bride of August 14.

Community Event Honors Mrs Anderson and Georgina

The committee hosted a gathering at Mrs. Geo. Anderson’s home to honor Georgina and Lizzie with gifts in the Old Mill Pattern. Georgina thanked the group warmly. The evening featured photos and lunch while plans outlined include extending the Cuisonaire method to Grade II and revising the French program for Grades 4-6. The staff and students anticipate a successful year.

Elizabeth Bell Jordan wife of Norman Wesley Jordan of 502 Duchess Street Saskatoon died in a local hospital on August 18 1962 Funeral was held August 21 at Park Funeral Chapel Rev Benson Summers and Rev Robert Hall presiding Survived by husband daughter Norma sister Zoe Tyler Sacramento California and brother Dr J R Guthridge Belleville Ontario She was born in Mitchell Ontario moved to Hamiota Manitoba in 1884 and to Saskatoon in 1927 Interment at Hillcrest Memorial Gardens in the family plot Knox United Church member and Grant Circle worker Sanford died in 1925

Decker Calf Club wraps up successful 4H year

The Decker Calf Club completed a fruitful 4H year on August 29 with all members and one guest present. Gail Clark and Barry Taylor reported on the 4H camp at Brandon in July, Marlene James spoke of Nebraska trip, and the assistant leader Ken Clark awarded gold seals to Marlene James and Glen Bridge as they attend their last meeting.

Manitoba Good Roads Association reports on maintenance and beautification efforts

Grass seed and tree orders for 1963 planting season

The notice urges immediate orders for Soil Conservation Plan grass seed with eight mixtures and a ten acre package priced at 17.00, due by October 30. It promotes shelterbelt trees from Indian Head, advises summer fallowing before planting, and lists ram rental by Manitoba Agriculture for commercial sheep owners at 8.00 per year with conditions. It also warns to control Canada thistle during harvest and fallow, stressing continuous cultivation to erase roots.

Meeting Minutes of Birdtail River School Division Shoal Lake 1962

The Birdtail River School Division No 38 votes to approve minutes from August 25 1962 and to file correspondence. It purchases six concrete incinerators for six junior colleges at 65 dollars each with five percent discount from Perma Crete. Van routes for Ray Unsworth Kyler Drake and Garth Strachan are approved with daily rates. Adjourns to September 6 Principals meeting at Birtle Collegiate at 8 p.m.
