Changes to resident bowhunting rules in Manitoba forests

Manitoba Natural Resources restricted elk licences due to declining local herds in Porcupine and Duck Mountain areas. A special draw reduced licences this year and deer and moose bowhunters need an elk archery licence and tag to hunt in areas 13 and 18. Areas 13A and 18A outside forests allow hunting without the elk licence during the August 24 to September 12 period. The department hopes the move boosts elk populations and future hunting opportunities.
