Hamiota Pentecostal Church marks 40th anniversary celebration
Hamiota Pentecostal Church celebrated forty years of ministry during Thanksgiving weekend with an 11:00 a.m. service featuring past ministers and members. Betty and Bernard Miller attended with daughters and grandchildren. A plaque honoring David Beck for sanctuary carpeting was presented to Rev and Mrs Beck. Everett Gurr summarized the church’s history from 1944 to 1984. Speakers included Bill Griffin, Pastor Beck, and Rev Taylor with special music by Audrey Gurr and others. Soup and sandwiches followed, and an informal Monday service allowed members to share thoughts.

Strathclair Drama Club to stage Fiddler on the Roof

Hamiota Curling Club hosts mixed cash bonspiel
The Hamiota Curling Club opened the 1984-85 season with a mixed cash bonspiel from October 26 to 28. Sixteen rinks competed in a fun, competitive weekend. Brian Taylor from Hamiota won first in the first event, with Dave Simpson of Shoal Lake taking second and Mervin Simpson of Virden third, while Ross Fraser of Hamiota earned fourth. In the second event Brent Strachan won, Garry Kidd was second, and Garth Strachan led the third with Vicki McGhee second.
