Canadian children replace trick or treat with Shell Out for UNICEF to aid vaccines milk vitamins and penicillin. Last year the campaign raised 75000 in coins. each receiving country matched one dollar with two more. One cent buys five glasses of milk and vaccines. five cents buys penicillin for a child. The Tyro Explorers call on households to give pennies and nickels for life saving aid.

Hamiota Home and School Association held a banquet for about eighty members and guests in the School Auditorium. Principal H T Nordin of King George School Brandon spoke on the three key traits for success of home and school groups and the need for open parental teacher channels.

United Church Choir Holds Annual Meeting

The Hamiota United Church Choir held its annual meeting on October 9, 1958. Officers elected include President Bob Hedley and Secretary-Treasurer Les Milne, with music and gown committees named. The Carol Service was set for December 7 under Miss Beth Waldon.

Children’s Aid Society marks 60 years of service in Manitoba

The Manitoba Western Children’s Aid Society outlines its 60 year history and expansion from visiting neglected children to broader services. Highlights include adoption work, guardianship, unmarried mothers aid, war refugee placements, temporary foster homes, a 1946 adoption agency role, and a 1952 substitute mother program. The report notes 407 families used family protection last year with 1484 children involved, 93 couples sought adoption, 64 children placed, and 63 adoptions finalized. It calls for local donations to support over 2000 children needing help next year, with about 30 percent funded by volunteers and contributions to Box 906 Brandon.
