Farm Notes on Anhydrous Ammonia and Liquid Nitrogen Use
Anhydrous ammonia is a gas at atmospheric pressure but liquid under pressure and is stored in pressurized tanks. Application uses a cultivator-type applicator with 16 to 18 inch knife spacing, releasing ammonia four inches underground for uniform coverage on light soils. Liquid nitrogen 28 0 0 is popular for easy pumping and uniform placement, either with seed using 10-34-0 fertilizer or via sprayers. Liquid sprayers cost about 2509 dollars, hold 500 gallons and cover 50 to 60 feet. self-propelled units carry 1 333 gallons with 65 foot booms for precise application.
