Hamiota seniors reorganized for winter games starting the first week in November. Shuffleboard elected leaders and Carpet Ball awaits a VP. Past members urged to rejoin. both clubs donate to Personal Care Home. Open to all ages with social hours and games at Herald Hall.
The Ladies Auxiliary of the Royal Canadian Legion Oak River met with Alice Dowalatek in the chair. Lisa Dowalatek and Thomas Heapy were nominated for a bursary. Heapy had the highest marks and will receive it. A $15 prize was decided for prizes, and plans include a supper for the Lions Club on October 18 and a tea on November 6. A rink curling trip to Birtle is scheduled for November 1. A Black and White TV will be raffled at the tea with all members holding tickets. One new member joined. three more hoped to join by November 4. The next meeting is November 4.
The Hamiota branch of the Canadian Bible Society met October 6 1982 at Christ Church Chumah Hall with Rev Bert Gurr officiating. Officers were reappointed except secretary Mrs Joan Shaw who resigned. A $1030 donation was presented to District Secretary Don Collins as canvassing progress noted.
Parkland Regional Library adds Rural Municipality and Village of Hamiota south of Riding Mountain Park, boosting members to 23 and population over 35 000. Dauphin joined in June, Hamiota branch planned with service due mid 1983, nine existing branches and a bookmobile serving 35 rural stops.
Relatives friends and neighbors filled the Miniota Community Centre on October 2 to fete bride elect Julie Oliver for October 23. Dorinda Watson and Linda Watters kept the guest book while Pat Lougheed hosted.
Legion Golf Tournament held October 4 at the Miniota Golf Club drew nine players due to bad weather. Champions and runners up included Jack Hanlin Miniota 77 in the Championship Flight, Herald Hall Miniota 82 and Charlie Nichol Gladstone 82 in the Ist Flight, R Rink Gladstone 83 and H Barnes Elkhorn 90 in the 2nd Flight, and B Rattray Elkhorn 106 as Oldest and Most Honest Golfer.
