Major A B Rogers and the Rogers Pass Discovery

Major A B Rogers identified the first feasible route through the Rocky Mountains for the Canadian Pacific Railway, locating Rogers Pass. The 1883 main line surveys and the 1885 Craigellachie milestone marked the railway’s opening and his recognition as Engineer in Chief. His legacy includes the pass name, a memorial cheque, and preserved family relics. Two nephews and nieces preserved letters linking Rogers with Sir William Van Horne and Lord Shaughnessy.
