Parliament Hill Report Highlights Farm Bill Expansions
Debates cover two agrarian bills with Farm Improvement Loan Act increasing maximum loans from 7500 to 15000 while preserving other terms. A new farm syndicate loan plan of 25 million seeks joint purchasing of machinery with 15 000 per person and 100 000 per loan cap, amid criticism over practicality and impacts on small farmers. The Rail Act amendment Bill No 120 aims to restructure losses subsidies for railways, expand branch line closures, and boost competition with trucking and airlines, drawing opposition and regional scrutiny. Manitoba agriculture also notes Crop Insurance Act amendments for provincial agreements.
