Two long-time district residents, Malcolm Wright and John Kennedy Sr., have died. Wright, born in Scotland 82 years ago, came to Canada sixty years ago, settled in Clifford, and leaves a widow and nine sons and two daughters. funeral from Knox church Friday at 2. Kennedy, over 83, moved from Waterloo county in 1878, leaves one son and five daughters, funeral at Bradwardine cemetery today.
The anniversary services will be held on Sunday October 2 1911 at 2 30 and 7 30 p m. A lecture by Dr J L Gordon of the Congregational Church Winnipeg will follow on Tuesday inviting all to attend.
C. A. Young, a senior member of the National Transcontinental railway commission, will resign from his post and relocate back to Winnipeg. He plans to step down after fulfilling current duties.
A thief entered John’s Oakner store by the back door on a Sunday night and disturbed by Mr Hohn’s sleep, attempted to drill a safe after placing chloroform on the pillow. He fled when seen, leaving tools behind and later tried twice more before escaping in a hired livery. About 1700 dollars were in the safe. the suspect remains at large.
Harvest Thanksgiving services were held at Oak River Crandall Hamiota by the Church of England. Rev G W Findlay preached earnest sermons urging donations to the Home Mission Fund. Collections fell short but parishioners are asked to contribute before November end. Choirs gave good music and the services were bright.
Dr Kirk, president of the local Boy Scouts, called an executive meeting Friday with Rev McCulloch as Scot master and Homer Delameter as assistant scout master. A 4200 subscription fund was opened, to be left with the Sec Treasurer. Plans include a concert in the new hall in about two months and future quartering in the Presbyterian school room. Mrs J Conningham and baby Rath arrive from Jiisville for three months with family. Rev Findlay led home mission appeals at Anglican services.
Chief Justice Mathers dismissed the action by the majority of Strathelair Maen to enforce a ruling of the Railway MUIDESSIUON.
