Foundation Stone Laid for Zion Methodist Church
The Zion Methodist Church in Hamiota Manitoba celebrated the laying of its foundation stone on September 25 1914 after delays caused by weather and a harvest period. Josiah A Shier supervised the ceremony and received a silver trowel from trustees. The stone weighs 300 pounds and contains a historical record of past fires and church milestones plus issues of local papers and church documents. The service included greetings from Rev E Tarkington and reflections on the churchs long history from early members Mr and Mrs Beamish and the community’s effort to complete the sanctuary.
