RCMP asks public help after repeated thefts of pesticides from rural Manitoba grain elevators. Treflan Avadex and other herbicides are stolen, causing substantial losses. authorities urge observers to report suspicious activity around elevators and related premises.
The Manitoba Pool Elevators announces fiscal year results ending July 31 1981 with total net earnings before taxes of 18.3 million a drop of 11 percent from the prior year. Country operations earned 3.4 million while terminal operations rose 25 percent to 8.9 million. Farm Supply sales rose 14 percent to 2.1 million. Annual meeting in Winnipeg runs November 2 to 6 with 80 former delegates attending.
Dates announced for probation and pedigreed seed growers short courses to be held November 30 and December 1, 1981 at the Agricultural Extension Centre in Brandon. Stan Banasiak notes probation coursework lasts three years and leads to select seed producer status.

The Canadian Mental Health Association invites volunteers in the Westman area to a free 100 hour training program over six weekends in 1982. Participants will learn to provide information education and support while meeting community mental health needs.
Labor Minister Ken MacMaster announced an increase in the maximum annual earnings used to base compensation for injured workers. The limit will rise from $21,000 to $23,000 effective January 1, 1982, following the Workers' Compensation Board review of average earnings for 1981 claimants.
