W I Hold Annual Meeting In Hamiota

The November meeting of the W I was held in Hamiota on Tuesday the 8th with 12 members present. Mrs Thelman Morris presided in the absence of president Mrs Phyllis Chappell who has been hospitalized. All officers were re elected to carry on for the year 78. Reports were given and accepted. The annual red cross report by convenors Mrs George Robertson and Mrs Ida Strachan was noted for local paper. December meeting set for December 6 at the Park Residence with Christmas entertainment for Senior Citizens.

Hamiota Village Council Meets Sets Subdivision Plan and Budgets

The Village of Hamiota council met at 7 p m on November 8 1977 with most members present. Items include 61446 78 cash received for the month and a regional library meeting set for December 6. A north end subdivision plan advances to Winnipeg for final approval and then to Neepawa for registration likely by Christmas. John E Riddell resigns from hospital board December 31 1977. A newcomer's welcome night is planned for November 16 1977. Building permits since the new by law are reported. chip sealing costs estimated at 17000 per mile plus engineer adjustments. Furnace replacement discussed for municipal garage and office basement. Resolutions authorize attendance at the Municipal Convention November 22 23 24 1977 and set 1977 78 standing committees and appointments to boards. The fluoride program is suspended until further reports. underwrites half hall rent for Welcome Committee party. accounts approved and cheques issued. meeting adjourned at midnight.

Harlem Clowns Visit Hamiota High School Gym

The Harlem Clowns perform December 6 at 7 30 p m in the Hamiota Collegiate gym as part of a 40 year world tour. They mix ball handling with planned humor while sponsors include the Sports Council and student groups.

Ladies Club Meeting Notes from CHUMAH

The Ladies Club met at Marlene Andrew’s home on November 2 with 16 attending. Peggy Smith led a devotional, minutes were read, and summer activities were summarized. Donations were sent for Hamiota Fair meals and a social marked the 25th anniversary of Lloyd and June Hazlewood. Barb Smith’s shower was held. Officer elections for 1978 79 occurred with Janie Lewis as president and other posts listed. Group leaders and trip highlights to Scotland were shared and a December gift exchange looms as Secret Friend revealed.

Foresters Celebrate 84th Canadian Forestry Anniversary in Hamiota

Friday evening November 4th over 70 Brothers and families of Court Hamiota No 367 gathered at the Hamiota Community Centre to mark Canadian Forestry’s 84th year. A turkey supper by the U C W included takeout portions for absentees and games of whist followed the presentation of service buttons to Charlie Ross and Maurice Francis.

Deer Survey Help Sought in Manitoba Interlake Area

Manitoba readers are asked to help monitor white tailed deer movements across the interlake and southwestern regions. Since 1972 more than 1,000 deer have been trapped and tagged with colored neck bands and ear tags to track seasonal movements and habitat use.
