The Hamiota Art Club hosted an October 26 program at Park Residence with about twenty five pictures on display for a week. Nora McConnell MC'd the event with Tracey Critchery opening the program and Don Pollock plus Jean Pollock performing violin and piano. Nora read light poems and Alma Dixon accompanied a hymn sing, followed by muffins and tea.
The Outstanding Business Achievement Awards Dinner on November 22 at the Winnipeg Chamber of Commerce Club is proving popular with excellent nominations in five categories and about half the 200 seats already sold. The event honours Manitoba business leaders and rural and urban enterprises, with Lt. Gov. Pearl McGonigal to present the awards.
The Hamiota 4-H General meeting held October 28 in the United Church choir room had 20 members present. A Bake Bingo fundraiser is set for November 26 at 7 30 p.m with posters around town and in schools and raffle tickets to be sold in advance.
A November 4 shower for bride elect Kim Klippenstein featured burgundy and pink decor in Hamiota Chumah Hall. Eleanor Thompson escorted Kim, with many family members and friends present, including Tim Knight and Marc Anderson in costumes. The group shared a Farmer’s Wife skit, gifts were opened, and Kim received an electric grid dle with warming oven as the community gift.
Grace Rebekah Lodge held its October gathering at the Community Centre in Hamiota. District Deputy President Florence Hearn and Fraternity Rebekah Lodge staff installed officers for January 1984, with plans for a November 19 Minnedosa seminar and December 9 Hospital Christmas Banquet.
A memorial speech recalls precious jewels of liberty as soldiers and civilians endure war and its costs. It urges eternal remembrance of those who died guarding freedom, linking past battles to present obligations and warning against forgetting the fallen.
Miniota The second meeting of the Miniota Merry 4 Hers was held October 24 at the Miniota School with a slide presentation 4 H a Friend of Mine. The club will send 2.00 per member to the Manitoba Council and 50 cents per member to District Council. Plans were made for the Fun Fair on November 18 at the Community Centre. On November 14 Miniota hosts the Hamiota District Fall Supper Meeting.
Oak River Ladies Auxiliary met November 3 with Alice Dowaletek chairing. Officers elected include President Audrey Coulson and Treas Winnie McCallum. Card sentiments sent, tea turnout strong, two hampers won by Ray Baldwin and Rose Waslak. Doug McCallum received a $75 bursary donation from Alice. Church parade and December 1 Xmas party planned with pot luck lunch.
