Jets TV deal doomed by Manitoba market limits
Barry Shenkarow argues Manitoba cannot sustain professional hockey with heavy TV exposure. Local blackout clashes, Molson’s two million annual payments, and weak arena attendance show a fragile market. The Jets face a clash between revenue from TV and live gate, risking future viability.

Rural environment group created in Manitoba
The province created the Association for A Clean Rural Environment to tackle rural environmental issues in Manitoba. Environment Minister Glen Cummings said ACRE will coordinate funding, research and public participation, focusing on disposing of contaminated pesticide containers and managing container fees. Agriculture Minister Glen Findlay noted added recycling focus for plastics as no feasible recycling exists currently. ACRE will operate rurally with a $50,000 annual administrative budget and an interim board led by representatives from farmers industry municipalities and governments.
